He looked away and nodded. “Oh…okay.” He looked everywhere around the room except her.
She looked down a little bit. It was easy to tell that didn’t make him feel particularly good. She looked up at him. “Uh…what about you? Are you seeing anyone?” She smiled a little hopeful smile.
“True. True.” He nodded and finished his coffee. “So… Are you married now? or?”
She sipped her coffee, a little taken aback by the question, but nonetheless expecting the subject to come up. “Um…no, uh, not yet.” She pointed to her phone. “That was my boyfriend, Evan, just calling.” She bit her lip.
“Where? You know Mckinley isnt a BIG stage.” He chuckled awkwardly.
She was a little of of her idea, but she’d figure she’d tell him anyway. “Not here, in New York,” she smiled. “Big.”
“any ideas?” He looked at her.
She shrugged. “I was thinking about putting on a show. But not a little show, a big show, and we’ll put a plot to it somehow and everything. Just make a great musical together. I think he’d be proud if we pulled it off.”
He shook his head. “i havent seen him since a little after senior year.” He held back tears. “Mckinley wont be the same.”
She bit her lip and frowned deeply, trying not to cry again herself. “It won’t,” she said. “But we have to do something great for Ms. Pillsbury…she wants us to do something to honor him.”
He looked down and stopped smiling. “you couldve answered that.” He shrugged and nodded. “on such a awful occasion.”
"No, it’s no one," she said quickly and dishonestly, not really wanting to go anywhere near the subject of Evan or anything close to that nature. She nodded. "Yeah," she said. "I can’t believe it. I just saw him not even a year ago…"
He looked at her. “ive missed you too. ” He smiled and looked at her, he looked at her a little longer than usual. He remembered everything from high school like it was yesterday. He just kept looking at her. “alot..”
She matched his eyes with his, all of these memories playing back like a movie in her head. Suddenly, her phone rang loudly on the table and looked at it, seeing her boyfriend was calling for what had to be the tenth time that night, she clicked ignore. “Sorry about that,” she said with a a small apologetic smile. “Uh, it’s crazy how everyone’s back together this week,” she said, in an attempt to change the subject.
He Wrapped his arms around her and smiled wide. He hinestly missed this. Afte1 five years, he missed it so much. Music never actually completed him, it was always rachel. “Uh…Rach-Rachel..” He pulled back a little and chuckled. “Do you want them to think that were secretly married or something?”
Rachel laughed and finally moved away, “Sorry, I got a little…” she trailed off as she sat back down. She looked down a little bit at her fingers on the table and started fiddling with them. She looked up at him. “I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed you,” she admitted.
He stood up and extended his arms, grinning. “i can clear those up easy.” He chuckled and looked at her. “after a while you learn to black them out.”
She giggled a little bit and smiled, standing up and embracing him in a hug. She suddenly remembered why she loved Finn’s hugs so much — his body was so warm and comfortable. Even when they hadn’t seen each other in so long, it felt so familiar. She held him kind of tight.
He sighed. “yeah, were like bieber status now or whatever.” He shrugged. “its been good. Long time no see.” He chuckled awkwardly and looked up at her.
She smiled a bit. “Yeah,” she said. “I wish I could give you a hug or something since we haven’t seen each other in so long, but I wouldn’t want to start any rumors,” she laughed, which turned out sounding kind of stiff.
